Lohrheide Stadium Bochum-Wattenscheid

Lohrheidestadion Wattenscheid
Lohrheidestadion Wattenscheid

The Lohrheide stadium was built in 1954 as a combined stadium for athletics and football.

It was rebuilt and substantially modernised for the German Track and Field Athletics Championships of 2002. The charm of the stadium is its position in a green area on the boundary of the towns of Bochum and Gelsenkirchen. From the main stand the eye is drawn up to a landmark on the route of industrial culture, the “Stairway to Heaven”, on the site of the former Rheinelbe mine in Gelsenkirchen.
