In 1931 the city’s town hall, designed by Darmstadt architect Professor Karl Roth, was officially opened.

It is one of the most imposing public buildings in the Ruhr region and for understandable reasons has been made a listed building: A strictly symmetrical layout, together with a plain but elegant facade and a spacious inner courtyard give the structure an aesthetic beauty that is timeless.
