There is not only the well-loved Heveney swimming centre, but sailing and surfing lessons await sport-loving visitors in summer. From the boat hire, you can hire sailing boats, rowing boats and pedal boats to explore the lake at your own leisure. For those who prefer to be driven, the excursion boat MS Kemnade offers a 50-minute trip on the lake with catering on board.
A walk around the lake will let you discover the diversity of this beautiful area. The short route is 8.3 km, the longer one is 10 km. You won't be short of choice for food and refreshments, with restaurants, beer gardens and a beach bar where you can take a break and enjoy the fine weather. There are also ample benches and grassy areas where you can sit back and relax, and numerous play areas will help keep the children occupied!
The Ruhr valley cycle path also passes by Lake Kemnade, but cycling around it too is still recommended. The trip is also worth it for skaters. The state-of-the-art asphalt skating track RUHR INLINE covers a distance of 10 km around the lake and is fully lit until 11 pm.
A kite buggy and a land-sailing school can also be found at the lake. It is the only one in North Rhein Westphalia, and is also the only school throughout Germany to offer both variants of buggy sailing. On windy days, this action-filled sport can be learned on the meadows surrounding the Heveney swimming centre.
You could also walk to the 1000 year-old rural church of Stiepel and Blankenstein Castle, which stand tall in the distance and watch over the surrounding area. Mini-golf courses can also be found by the lake in Oveney and Herbede, and nearby in Lottental.
The 'Kemnader See in Flammen' fireworks festival and Ruhr Tent Festival also take place at the lake each year.
